Upon entering the temple of Lord Jagannath, Gopa Kumar fell into an ecstatic trance.
"I came to my senses, opened my eyes, and gazed upon Him [Jagannath] again. Like a madman I ran forward quickly to catch hold of Him.... Just then the guards struck me with their sticks and stopped me. Realizing what I had done I felt embarrassed. 'This is Krishna's mercy," I reasoned, and went outside, where I received remnants of His maha-prashada."
